With employees getting itchy to return to the office, Alteryx Inc. (NYSE: AYX) is thinking of opening part of its new headquarters in Spectrum Terrace before the current target date of Sept. 1.
While the plan to open shortly before Labor Day is still on the books, “I’m hoping in the near term to make an announcement to allow people to come back a little bit earlier,” says Alteryx CEO Mark Anderson.
No one is working out of the data and analytics company’s new offices, which total 183,000 square feet, as of yet.
Likewise, no one is officially working out of the old offices at Irvine’s Park Place, which total 70,000 square feet near John Wayne Airport.
However, the company does have a few people on-site in the new office, such as IT, to help set up the building, and facilities officials to oversee things.
A few people, including executives, have been coming in to the old office for events such as earnings and the recent Inspire conference but both offices are still closed to the rest of the employees, due to the coronavirus.
Part of the move to reopen earlier is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
Anderson told the Business Journal on May 14.
July, August
Alteryx’s new home at Spectrum Terrace runs alongside the San Diego (405) Freeway. Its lease for the buildings, first announced in 2019, is one of the larger deals of late in Orange County for a tech company.
The company’s office buildings at the new mid-rise complex recently got the Alteryx name affixed atop them.
Anderson said the opening of the new space could come in July or August or even earlier, given improving health metrics and the state’s June 15 reopening date.
Even local car travel tells a positive tale for businesses.
“I’ve been on the 405 a lot in the last couple of months and I see the traffic steadily getting worse. I suspect that it’ll get back to normal sooner rather than later,” according to Anderson, whose firm is valued at about $5.3 billion.
He adds: “We’re hearing pretty loud and clear people want to get back to the office. People want to start collaborating. That’s been a big part of what’s made Alteryx a great company.”
While one of the two buildings at the new site may open earlier than currently planned, Anderson emphasized that the other building is still under construction and “may not be ready until September” anyway.
Alteryx’s new seven-year lease is for the entirety of 17200 Laguna Canyon Drive, and spills over into 17100
Laguna Canyon Drive, where it will take up part of the first floor and all of the third and fourth floors. The move will accommodate Alteryx’s fast growth, which went from 555 employees companywide in 2017 to almost 1,500 at the end of last year. The company doesn’t release the number of local workers.
Kajabi Neighbor
Alteryx isn’t the only multi-billion valued tech company at the complex.
One of the analytics software firm’s new neighbors is Kajabi LLC, an online software platform for small businesses and entrepreneurs, which has 43,800 square feet of space at its headquarters in Spectrum Terrace.
Kajabi’s more than 200 employees are working 100% remotely at this time, with plans for a return to the Irvine offices at the beginning of September. The company said earlier this month it had raised $550 million in a new financing round that pushes the company’s valuation past $2 billion.
Spectrum Terrace, located at the intersection of Laguna Canyon Road and the 405, will offer one million square feet of workspace throughout nine four-story buildings at buildout, according to the project’s developer, Irvine Co.
