Newport Beach-based Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG) bowed its first Southern California restaurant with a “Chipotlane,” tapping Costa Mesa for the location.
The new restaurant, on Bristol Street, is the chain’s fourth in the state to get one of the drive-thrus. Chipotle has about 80 restaurants nationally touting its Chipotlanes.
Another Costa Mesa location, also with the drive-thru, is expected this year.
The company said in mid-March it aimed to add the drive-thru pick-up lane to most new restaurants this year. Construction delays have since ensued as a result of the pandemic, with construction starts for most April projects pushed back.
Chipotle has over 2,600 restaurants systemwide.
The company ended the March quarter with revenue up 7.8% to $1.4 billion. Adjusted net income totaled $87.2 million in the quarter.
Digital sales comprised more than 26% of the quarter’s overall sales and was up 81% with the chain still offering takeout and delivery options.
