AMO Now J&J Vision

Johnson & Johnson completed its $4.3 billion acquisition of Abbott Medical Optics Inc., a Santa Ana-based former subsidiary of Abbott Laboratories.

The combined operation—which will be comprised of Abbott Medical Optics’ ophthalmic surgery business and some consumer eyecare products along with Johnson & Johnson’s ACUVUE contact lens line—will be called Johnson & Johnson Vision.

J&J Vision will keep dual headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla. and Santa Ana, with more than 8,400 employees worldwide.

Johnson & Johnson is based in New Brunswick, N.J., a recent market cap of $336 billion, and about 126,400 employees worldwide.

The new parent company has not indicated the shape of the newly formed operation’s leadership team.

Johnson & Johnson shares were about even after the closing of the deal—first made public in September—was announced this morning.
