Just a few additions to this week’s front-page coverage of our Business People of the Year—notes on some recent moves that also merit mention as our community of business gets set to take on whatever 2017 has to offer … It was more than the promise that associate bonuses would exceed the widely watched and much-followed Cravath Scale that had the Greenberg Gross holiday party bursting at the seams and buzzing all around the Segerstrom Center’s Samueli Theater … Yuletide is increasingly the Costa Mesa-based law firm’s season, with an annual bash that’s getting to be a sensation—a trend pushed along when Wayne Gross joined the band to belt out a hearty rendition of “Fly Me to the Moon” … Other top performances for the holidays included the giant gift box formed by thousands of red and white lights that greeted visitors to Steve Craig’s Citadel Outlets and passersby on the I-5—the Newport Beach-based retail impresario topped the field with the enormous eye-catcher … OC-based companies—Newport Beach-based Urban Decay Cosmetics LLC, and Too Faced Cosmetics LLC in Irvine—made a different sort of holiday list when they landed among the top five makeup items sold by specialty retail giant Sephora in the U.S., according to a recent report from WWD … Next up for notice is Sage Hill School’s unofficial and unheralded adult education program, which can claim credit for a social media sensation in the making. It started when Madaline Gordon, a trustee at the Newport Coast academy, told fellow board member Andra Greene that Jack—the latter’s pure-bred Siberian Husky—belonged on Instagram. Gordon had done the same with her own dog, establishing @genevievethebriard—and that gave social media newbie Greene the courage to go ahead. Last report shows more than 6,000 followers for @jackiethehusky, and one photo has drawn more than 18,000 views. Greene’s background as a partner at Irell & Manella in Irvine should come in handy, with her pooch now getting approached about sponsorship deals for dog food and pet collars. Perhaps she’ll call Gordon’s husband, Stephen, over at Opus Bank when it’s time for Jack to get paid … You heard it here first: vintage hit maker Cheap Trick will headline the annual Encore for Education at the House of Blues’ new joint at the GardenWalk in Anaheim. The fundraiser is set for April 20, underwritten by “generous sponsors from the real estate industry to support Buchanan Children’s Charities, the OC Community Foundation and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) OC.” Credit Newport Beach-based real estate investor Buchanan Street Partners as the driving force … Sullivan says: Former Vans Inc. boss Kevin Bailey, one of our Business People of the Year, deserves extra credit for the brand-burnishing checkerboard he leaves behind at the company’s new place off the 405.
