Stock indices were up in midday trading as the price of oil topped $50 a barrel.
The S&P 500 rose 0.9% 2,085.21. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.9% to 17,926.13. The Nasdaq was up 0.8% to 4,924.65.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was flat at 1.9%.
The price of gold rose 1.5% to $1,219.
AGRICULTURE
Newport Beach-based American Vanguard Corp. was up 4.3% to $11.35 and a $333 million market cap. The company bought the European business of a product called Nemacur from an Israel-based company and said it now owns the worldwide rights to the brand.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based Endologix Inc. was up 1.2% to $17.57 and a $1.2 billion market cap. Stifel Nicolaus affirmed a “buy” rating on the dental device maker’s shares and raised its target price from $17 to $20.
