Former Exec at Manufacturer Sentenced on Foreign Bribery

A former vice president of Control Components Inc. in Rancho Santa Margarita has been sentenced to four months in prison to be followed by four months of home confinement for violating a U.S. foreign bribery law.

David Edmonds pleaded guilty in June to a charge that he violated the Foreign Corrupt Practice Act by making a bribe to a government official in Greece in 2003.

An investigation has been ongoing into Control Components, which manufactures control valves used for oil, gas and other power-generating industries.

The company made voluntary disclosures to the Department of Justice in 2007 and pleaded guilty in 2009. Court documents state that the company made corrupt payments totaling about $6.85 million from 1998 through 2007 to officials in more than 30 countries. Those payments are said to have brought Control Components about $46.5 million in business. Eight former Control Components executives have been charged, and seven have pleaded guilty.
