Manufacturing Picked Up in December

U.S. factories picked up their pace in December, capping off a year of expansion in the manufacturing industry despite some recent signs of a downturn in employment, a report showed on Monday. The Institute for Supply Management said its index of national manufacturing activity rose to 58.6 in December from 57.8 in November.
