The National Association of Home Builders named Robert W. Duff senior life director on its board. Duff is senior vice president of Fidelity National Title in Newport Beach, part of Florida’s Fidelity National Financial Inc. Duff is past chairman of the association’s associate members committee and was inducted into its Society of Honored Associates in 1990. Duff volunteers for the Special Olympics, the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society.
Santa Ana College inducted alumni Kenneth C. Ulrich, Dennis A. Farrell, Rolf Engen and Jeffrey L. Armstrong into the Alumni Achievement Hall of Fame. Ulrich is responsible for public works construction projects at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and the former Tustin Marine base. Farrell is commissioner of the Big West conference for college sports. Engen transferred to University of California, Los Angeles, where he led his volleyball team to a national title. Armstrong is the president of the Society of Environmental Toxi-cology and Chemistry, OC chapter.
The Government Finance Officers Ass-ociation of the U.S. and Canada awarded the city of Garden Grove its Certificate of Achieve-ment for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2006 annual report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The award was presented to Finance Director Kingsley Okereke.
Habitat for Humanity of Orange County gave Irvine-based Fuscoe Engineering Inc. its Vision Builder Award. Fuscoe has provided pro bono civil engineering design services for several Habitat projects, including seven new townhomes in Cypress. In addition to providing grading, water, sewer and storm drain plans, the Fuscoe team developed a unique sustainable storm drain system that provides pretreatment of storm water.
Warren Nelson was named to the Labor Relations Institute’s annual listing of Top 100 Labor Attorneys in the U.S. Nelson is a partner in the Irvine office of Fisher & Phillips LLP and also was named to the institute’s list in 2006. The list is chosen from 8,600 labor lawyers and is based on the extent of their experience in labor law and their win record. Also from Fisher & Phillips, Christopher J. Boman was named a 2007 Southern California Super Lawyers-Rising Star by Law & Politics magazine for the third year in a row. Boman, age 36, became one of the youngest partners at the Irvine office.
Mark Jones was honored with the Perseverance Award by the WillReturn Council of Assurant Employee Benefits. Jones demonstrated resilience, willpower and conscientiousness in the recovery from a disabling spinal cord injury. Jones’ employer, Evangelical Christian Credit Union also received an award from the council for its efforts to modify Jones’ workspace so that he could return to his job.
Laguna Niguel-based Art & Creativity for Healing honored the Junior League of OC, California Inc. with its 2007 Big Heart Award. The league’s community grants and scholarship committee named Art & Creativity for Healing a grant recipient for 2007. The Junior League of OC is comprised of women committed to promoting volunteerism and developing the potential of women.
