Super Bowl: No Ticket, No Entry to Grounds
Among the security arrangements for next weekend’s Super Bowl in San Diego: no public parking,or partying,in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot.
While security for the game, one of the world’s most-watched events, will be spearheaded by the San Diego Police Department, others will be in full force, including the FBI, Secret Service, Federal Emergency Management Agency and other state and local law enforcement agencies.
Other Super Bowl measures: taxis are allowed to deliver spectators only to a parking lot next to the stadium.
Those who use the trolley to the stadium will need to show tickets to exit the trolley at that stop (the trolley line ends at Qualcomm). And don’t even try to sneak off. Security officers will escort non-ticket holders right back to the trolley for a ride back to town.
Limousines are allowed onto the grounds, but driver names had to be submitted in advance to the National Football League, according to a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transit Development Board, which is overseeing those arrangements.
The San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau set up training sessions for taxi and limo drivers at the nearby Town & Country Resort & Convention Center to familiarize them with the best routes and security procedures on game day.
A high-tech digital camera system installed at the stadium under a contract with the National Football League uses 50 cameras that provide views of every nook and cranny. The cameras were tested at the regular season game between the Chargers and the Oakland Raiders.
