A venture fund of Linksys founder Victor Tsao has invested in Sunnyvale based Tzero Technologies with Tsao becoming an adviser to the company.
Tzero Technologies said Tsao’s Miven Venture Partners provided “an extension” to its second venture round. The investment is the ninth overall by Miven.
Tsao is cofounder of Irvine-based Cisco-Linksys LLC, a provider of wireless networking gear that’s part of Cisco Systems Inc.
Tsao founded Miven in 2005 along with Jawad Ansari, chairman of Irvine-based Corporate Metrix Inc., a family office business.
Tsao is the general partner.
The amount of the Tzero investment wasn’t disclosed.
At Tzero, Miven joins investors Menlo Park’s August Capital Management LLC and Lightspeed Venture Partners, among others.
Tzero’s wireless products enable wireless video throughout a home. The products can connect to displays, set-top boxes and digital video recorders, among other things, using a technology call ultrawideband wireless.
“Consumer electronics manufacturers want UWB because it provides the bandwidth necessary for wireless distribution of high-definition video,” Tsao said. “Consumers need UWB because it eliminates the need to run expensive and cumbersome cables to their beautiful flat panel TVs.”
