U.N. Insults

It was a very bad week for a weak America.

It was one insult after another at the U.N.

Can you imagine the president of the U.S. being called the “devil” by a South American dictator to the applause of U.N. delegates?

The Iranian head of state railed against America, demanded restructuring of the Security Council and left without being arrested for his prior activities in the taking of U.S. hostages during the presidency of Jimmy Carter.

The frosting on the cake: All the headlines screaming out, “Muslim world seething at pope,” “Muslim leaders across the Arab world called for a ‘day of rage,'” “Hamas speaks out against recognizing Israel,” “Hezbollah chief Nasrallah refuses to disarm.”

We forced Israel to quit fighting when everyone knew they could have delivered all our terrorist enemies a serious defeat. Now, our enemies are emboldened and our country is more at risk then ever.

But how did our government spend its week?

Negotiating more humane ways to treat foreign prisoners of war and deciding to build a 700-mile fence.

American Hospital

Thank you very much for the coverage of Applied Medical Resources Corp. in the Sept. 18 issue. The article was enjoyable and we forwarded it to our team members all over the world.

I would like to point out that, at least in our view, American Hospital Supply was never defunct, as my prior employer was described in the story.

American Hospital was truly one of the most successful and progressive medical companies.

Its culture, growth and care for people were exceptional. It did get acquired by Baxter. But many of its divisions outlasted and survived the Baxter invasion and takeover.

Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine is but one example.

Although defunct implies obsolete and/or out of use, it also means useless, dead and invalid.

I truly believe American Hospital Supply, its culture and heritage are still alive and useful in many places, including at Applied Medical.
