Alan J. Fuerstman was honored as Resort Executive of the Year at the Resort Management Conference, which is sponsored by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International. Fuerstman is founder and chief executive of Laguna Beach-based Montage Hotels & Resorts LLC. The company will open Montage Beverly Hills this fall and plans to open resorts in Utah and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico by 2011.
KTGY Group Inc. in Irvine received the Intern Development Program Firm Award. The award honors KTGY’s commitment to providing interns with mentoring and training opportunities. KTGY also received the Pasadena Beautiful Foundation’s Redevelop-ment Award for its design of a Whole Foods market in an 80-year-old historic
building.
J.L. Patterson & Associates Inc. in Orange was ranked among the top 25 best companies to work for by OC Metro magazine. The transportation engineering firm was included for its compensation and benefits package, recognition programs and social atmosphere. Employees are rewarded with on-the-spot bonuses and gifts to reward performance.
UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange was named a magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The magnet recognition program highlights nursing excellence and rigorous standards for patient satisfaction. The medical center also offers nurses continuing education hours, tuition reimbursement and shared governance.
The California Emergency Services Associa-tion, Southern Chapter gave OperationOC and its volunteers a certificate of special recognition for outstanding service to the field of emergency management. OperationOC President Jim Palmer has presented the nonprofit’s operational plan at the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
The Board of Directors of the California Golf Course Owners Association named Tustin Ranch Golf Club Course of the Year. The golf course will compete for the national Course of the Year title. Tustin Ranch is the only public course in the county to offer a complete caddie program.
Buena Park residents Raghu and Rohit Marwaha were named Development Agents of the Year by the Subway restaurant chain, part of Connecticut-based Doctor’s Associates Inc. As development agents, the Marwaha brothers provide management support and expertise for their local franchisees. Their territory includes 325 restaurants and they seek to increase their own personal store ownership to 100 locations.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County won the Gold Standard Award for achievement from the organization’s National Leadership Council. The award recognizes agencies that demonstrate consistent growth in revenues and mentoring relationships.
Frank L. Scott was honored at the 33rd annual John and Donna Crean Reach Out Awards in Costa Mesa. He has directed more than $25 million in philanthropic assets as chairman of the R.C. Baker Foundation since 1963. Scott spent 44 years at Baker Oil Tools, now Baker Hughes Inc., and has also served on the North Orange County YMCA Board of Directors. The foundation is located in Orange.
JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano honored Troy Tanner for his role in coaching Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh to their second straight gold medal win in beach volleyball at the Beijing Olympics, something no other team has done before. Tanner coaches the school’s varsity boys’ volleyball team. With Tanner as coach, May-Treanor and Walsh racked up 112 straight match wins.
Robert and Margaret Sprague of Corona del Mar received the Spirit of Philanthropy Lifetime Achievement Award from the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The Spragues’ most recent gift to UCI will support a new Women’s Cancer Research Center that will house faculty research, post-doctoral studies and resident training.
James Galindo won the Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contest at the L. Ron Hubbard Achievement Awards in Hollywood. He submitted a drawing for the story “Taking a Mile.” Galindo is on track to obtain his Master of Fine Arts degree next year from the Laguna College of Art & Design.
Edwards Lifesciences Corp. took home the Best Overall Annual Report at the Orange County Chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute Annual Report Competition. Other companies garnering awards were: American Vanguard Corp., Calavo Growers Inc., Qualcomm Inc., Allergan Inc., Quiksil-ver Inc. and CB Richard Ellis Group Inc.
