Universal Services to Merge

Santa Ana-based commercial security and janitorial services company Universal Services of America will merge on undisclosed terms with AlliedBarton Security Services in Conshohocken, Pa. to create a company named AlliedUniversal.

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter with Universal Services Chief Executive Steve Jones to serve as chief executive of the combined company and Bill Whitmore, the chief executive of AlliedBarton, as chairman of the board.

The company’s operating headquarters will remain in Orange County.

The combined company is projected to have annual revenue of $4.5 billion and provide national support with 140,000 trained officers.

Universal Services is among the largest security companies in the U.S. and is one of the largest privately owned companies in Orange County. It employs about 5,500 employees locally and 80,000 overall.

It has about $2.5 billion in annual revenues and has grown largely through acquisitions over the last three years.
