The S&P 500 fell 0.36% to 1,649.31 in afternoon trading Thursday.
The Dow Jones industrial average was off 0.11% to 15,290.32, while the Nasdaq was down 0.18% to 3,457.15.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.64% to 2.04%.
The price of gold was up 1.43% to $1,387 per ounce.
Anaheim-based action-sports retailer Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. rose about 13% to $3.30, a day after the company offered better-than-expected current-quarter guidance and beat on results for the quarter ended May 4. The results show a continued trend of improvement in the retailer’s business, which has been shuttering stores and improving its merchandise assortment over the past few years. Pacific Sunwear had a recent market value of $225.34 million.
Huntington Beach-based BJ's Restaurants Inc. fell about 2% to $37.95 for a market value of $1.07 billion. Restaurant companies were generally mixed in midday trading Thursday.
