The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.12% to 13,407, while the Nasdaq was down 0.01% to 3,100.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond rose 1.58% to 1.93%.
The price of gold fell 1.64% to $1,647 per ounce.
Shares of Irvine-based drug maker Allergan Inc. rose about 1.5% to $98 for a market value of $29.4 billion.
Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. rose about 9% to $5, a day after the company announced the appointment of Andy Mooney to chief executive. Goldman Sachs upgraded the company’s stock from “neutral” to “buy” on the news. Quiksilver had a recent market value of $812 million.
