Brown Rudnick LLP in Boston has acquired Irvine-based litigation firm Rus Miliband & Smith in a move to establish a presence on the West Coast and open a door to business in Asia.
The deal came on undisclosed terms.
Rus Miliband has been re-branded as the Irvine office of Brown Rudnick and will operate under the oversight of Joseph Ryan, chairman and chief executive of Brown Rudnick.
The Boston firm has offices in several cities on the East Coast, including Washington, D.C.; New York; and Hartford, Conn. It also counts an office each in London and Dublin. It has a total of about 200 attorneys spread across a number of practice areas, including corporate, government contracts, intellectual property and litigation.
The acquisition adds 10 attorneys to Brown Rudnick.
“Our new Orange County office not only enables us to serve our Southern California and West Coast clients more effectively, [but] it also complements our strength in the technology and life-sciences sectors,” said Joseph Ryan, chairman and chief executive of Brown Rudnick.
The acquisition also is expected to serve as “a gateway to Asia where our clients increasingly are engaged in business,” according to Ryan.
