The S&P 500 rose 0.73% to 1,388.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was up 0.12% to 1.63%.
The price of gold rose 0.43% to $1,738 per ounce.
Shares of Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi Corp. were off about 3% to $18 following Needham & Co.’s downgrade of the chipmaker’s shares from “strong-buy” to “buy.” Microsemi had a recent market value of $1.6 billion.
Newport Beach specialty chemicals maker American Vanguard Corp. was up about 4% to $32 for a market value of $896 million.
