The S&P 500 fell 0.24% to 1,406 in midday trading Tuesday.
The Nasdaq was off 0.38% to 2,991, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.06% to 12,958.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond fell 1.35% to 1.61%.
The price of gold was off 1.55% to $1,693 per ounce.
Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. was off about 6% to $32 for a market value of $911 million. Casual-dining chains were generally down Tuesday following Orlando, Fla.-based Darden Restaurants Inc.’s lowered profit guidance for the quarter ended Nov. 25. Darden operates multiple restaurant chains, including Yard House, Red Lobster and Olive Garden.
Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp. was up about 5% to $91 for a market value of $10.5 billion. The device maker reiterated its guidance for 2012 and revised its 2013 earnings outlook above Wall Street analyst expectations.
Shares of Irvine-based Masimo Corp. were up about 5% to $21 for a market value of $1 billion.
