The Nasdaq was up 2.16% to 2,972.68 in midday trading, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.77% to 13,106.76 after a better-than-expected U.S. jobs report.
The S&P 500 was up 1.98% to 1,391.97.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond rose 6.22% to 1.57%.
The price of gold was up 1.15% to $1,605.70 per ounce.
Newport Beach specialty chemical maker American Vanguard Corp.’s shares rose 9.33% to $28.11 after reporting an increase in revenue and profit for the second quarter.
Shares of Irvine healthcare services company CorVel Corp. were up 6.48% to $47 to a recent market value of $525 million.
Costa Mesa-based networking electronics maker Emulex Corp. was up 6.14% to $6.40 to a market value of about $555 million.
Irvine-based Multi-Fineline Electronix Inc., better known as M-Flex, saw shares rise 6.85% to $29.02 after reporting a better-than-expected profit for the June quarter. The printed circuit board maker had a recent market value of about $689 million.
Cypress-based wireless control technology maker Universal Electronics Inc. rose 16.61% to $14.60 to a market value of about $220 million a day after beating analyst expectations on profit for its June quarter results.
Shares of Biolase Inc. were up 9.67% to $1.71 to a market value of $53 million. The Irvine-based dental laser maker and distributor announced a five-year agreement with 3Shape Corp. of Denmark on Thursday to distribute 3Shape’s digital impression system in the U.S. and Canada.
Newport Beach networking chip maker was up 11.45% to $2.73 to a recent market value of $106 million.
Shares of Irvine-based TigerLogic Corp. rose 19.39% to $1.97 to a market value of about $59 million.
