Quality Systems Names COO, Director

Quality Systems Inc., an Irvine medical software maker, said Monday it has appointed Philip Kaplan, a former company director, as its new chief operating officer.

In his new role, Kaplan will oversee all of Quality’s business operations, including its NextGen Healthcare Information Systems unit and QSI dental division.

Quality makes software that helps doctors and dentists manage their practices.

Kaplan, 42, served as a Quality director from June 2008 until last week, when he resigned that position.

He was most recently chief executive of Deer Valley Ventures LLC, a technology company.

Kaplan’s career also includes cofounding VitalStream Holdings Inc., a maker of software for online video and audio that was bought in 2007 by Atlanta-based Internap Network Services Corp.

Quality named lawyer Craig Barbarosh, managing partner of the Orange County office of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, to replace Kaplan as a director.

Barbarosh has been a Pillsbury Winthrop partner since 1999.
