Irvine-based Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. said it has received a second round of funding for a joint venture with Lake Forest-based Fisker Automotive Inc.
The venture is making a range of environmentally friendly luxury cars, with the first to be introduced next week at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Quantum is supplying the electric technology for the Fisker Hybrid branded cars.
“The new Fisker hybrid sports sedan, which incorporates Quantum’s proprietary Q-Drive system, will change the way we look at the automotive world,” said Quantum Chief Executive Alan Niedzwiecki.
The undisclosed amount of funding from Menlo Park-based venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers builds on initial funding from Palo Alto-based Palo Alto Investors, Quantum said.
Fisker founder Henrik Fisker designed the Aston Martin DB and also worked for Ford Motor Co.
In 2005 Fisker started Fisker Coachbuild LLC in Newport Beach, a luxury sports car company that designs and sells them.
