All but two Orange County automakers posted gains in September sales on Monday.
Cypress-based Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc., part of Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors Corp., posted a 2% sales drop for the month.
Mitsubishi, which is working to reverse a slump, sold 9,054 vehicles in September, compared to 9,160 from a year ago.
“September sales were steady, with Eclipse continuing to lead the way,” said David Schembri, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Mitsubishi, in a release.
Volvo Cars of North America LLC, the largest unit of Ford Motor Co.’s Irvine-based Premier Automotive Group, saw its September sales drop 9.7% to 9,542 units.
Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc., a unit of South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co., led gainers in terms of actual cars sold.
Hyundai’s U.S. sales rose 9% to 38,214 in September.
Irvine-based Kia Motors America, also part of Hyundai, posted a 1.8% increase in September sales to 23,404 vehicles.
Mazda North American Operations, an Irvine-based unit of Japan’s Mazda Motor Corp., sold 19,918 autos in September, up 5.4% from a year earlier.
Brea-based American Suzuki Motor Corp., the U.S. arm of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp., said its September sales were up 41% to 7,131 autos in the month.
