The S&P 500 rose 0.33% to 1,868.39 in afternoon trading Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.15% to 16,450.05, while the Nasdaq was up 0.53% to 4,107.78.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 3.22% to 2.72%.
The price of gold fell 0.71% to $1,294.20 per ounce.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based drug maker Allergan Inc. was up about 2% to $133.70. The company, which had a recent market value of $39.91 billion, purchased Aline Aesthetics’ hyaluronic acid thread technology used for dermal fillers on undisclosed terms. Aline Aesthetics is part of Menlo Park-based medical device investment fund TauTona Group.
Healthcare software maker Quality Systems Inc., also in Irvine, was up about 2% to $15.94 for a market value of $959.75 million. Raymond James reiterated its “market perform” rating on the company’s stock.
TECHNOLOGY
Aliso Viejo-based chipmaker Microsemi Corp. was up about 3% to $24.46 for a market value of $2.32 billion.
