Midday Stock Roundup

Indexes fell broadly as oil rose as high as $130 a barrel due to threats of oil sanctions on Russia.

The S&P; dropped 2.1% to 4,239.32 during midday trading, the Dow was down 1.8% to 33,019.71 and Nasdaq also fell 2.5% at 12,980.72.

Crude oil increased 5.9% to $212.56 a barrel.

Gold was up 1% to $1,986 an ounce.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 0.174% to 1.722%.


Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. (Nasdaq: BJRI) fell 12% to $25 with a market cap of $586 million. Volume was twice the daily average. The S&P; 600 Restaurants Index was off 9.9% to 1,450.42.

Newport Beach-based Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG) was also down 7.3% with a market cap of $37.5 billion. Shares of the quick-service Mexican food chain have fallen by about a third in the last six months.
