Four OC Restaurants in Expo Charity Event

Four Orange County-based restaurant companies will compete in a fundraising food event at the upcoming Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc., Anaheim-based Specialty Restaurants Corp., Cypress-based Real Mex Restaurants Inc., and Huntington Beach-based Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar are participating.

The event is a cooking competition on Sunday, the convention’s first day. Companies will send one official and a chef to team with one student, to create an hors d’oeuvre and an entrée in 45 minutes on two butane burners.

This year’s competition has raised $83,000 for the educational efforts of expo and conference sponsor the California Restaurant Association in Sacramento.

Seven other restaurant companies are participating.

The association expects 600 vendors and 10,000 attendees at the three-day conference and expo.
