Ubiquity Restructures

Nicholas Mitsakos today was named interim chief executive of Irvine-based Ubiquity Inc. as part of its corporate restructuring.

Former Chief Executive Chris Carmichael takes the role of chief creative architect.

Ubiquity, which announced the spin out of a production studio Tuesday, is searching for a permanent chief executive, as well as new board members with expertise in augmented reality, virtual reality and holography, according to Carmichael.

“The reason why I stepped aside to support Nick is so he can drive this to another level,” he said. “I got to a point in my career where I want to keep inventing things and get patents and doing disruptive technologies. That’s where my heart lies.”

The new board members will help select the new chief executive, which could take six months or longer, according to Mitsakos, who hasn’t made a decision yet to throw his hat into the ring for this position.

Carmichael and Mitsakos will retain their positions as co-chairman of the company.

Ubiquity develops operating system software for mobile phones, among other offerings.

Mitsakos started his investment career at Goldman Sachs. He was a co-founder of General Computer Corp., which was eventually sold to New York City-based Warner Communications, now Time Warner Cable.

Mitsakos received his MBA from Harvard University and his B.S. from the University of Southern California in computer science and microbiology.

He currently manages Arcadia Holdings Inc., a holding company based in Palo Alto for his legacy investments, and San Francisco-based Matrix Capital, which focuses on public securities.
