The S&P 500 fell 0.24% to 1,932.22 in midday trading Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.14% to 16,546.13, and the Nasdaq fell 0.37% to 4,385.17.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.83% to 2.44%.
The price of gold was flat at $1,309.80.
HEALTHCARE
San Clemente-based device maker ICU Medical Inc. was up 8.4% to $62.73 and a market capitalization of $952.5 million. The company beat analysts’ expectations despite its net income declining to $5.9 million in the second quarter from $7.4 million in the same period last year. It raised its full-year earnings guidance to a range of $1.30 to $1.50 per share, up from $1.15 to $1.45.
Foothill Ranch-based Skilled Healthcare Group Inc. was down 4.5% to $6.09 and a market capitalization of $241.2 million. The nursing facility operator reported a net loss of $2.8 million in the second quarter compared with net income of $1.5 million in the same period last year. It reported that adjusted net income for the quarter declined 22% compared to 2013, and that revenue and occupancy also fell.
