Report: JWA Flying After Tower Closure

The air traffic control tower at John Wayne Airport closed after a staffer there tested positive for the coronavirus; the airport is open with backup help from regional controllers, news reports and the FAA said.

Regional controllers can handle 10 arrivals per hour, about a third of the usual 28, but with air traffic way down, it was unclear whether the airport would experience delays, the Orange County Register reported.

Separately, CBS in Los Angeles said one of the airport’s two runways is closed.
