The Daily Pilot—a Los Angeles Times publication that covers Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Irvine—will cut back to five days a week with an end to its Tuesday edition.
The Nov. 6 election-day issue will be its final Tuesday edition. It will be published Wednesday-through-Sunday after that date.
Free mobile and tablet apps will be released on Nov. 1 in a push towards digital.
“The news business is evolving, and we too need to adjust and meet our readers wherever they like to find us — in print, on their tablets or at DailyPilot.com,” John Canalis, editor of the Pilot, said on the newspaper’s website.
Los Angeles Times subscribers in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach will continue to receive the Pilot with their paper five days a week. Subscribers in Irvine will continue to get the Sunday edition of the Daily Pilot in their Los Angeles Times.
The Pilot plans to include longer stories on weekends.
The Daily Pilot is part of the LA Times’ Community Newspapers Group, which also includes the Huntington Beach Independent and Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot.
Los Angeles County sister publications the Glendale News-Press, La Cañada Valley Sun and the Burbank Leader are expected to see changes similar to the plans for the Daily Pilot.
No changes are planned for the other Orange County publications.
