California Pizza Kitchen Opens New Airport Location

Costa Mesa-based pizza brand ramps up international presence

California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) opened its 41st international restaurant this past weekend in the newest terminal of Chile’s Santiago International Airport.

The Costa Mesa-based pizza brand announced the opening of the Chile store on Tuesday as part of its focus on growth through franchising in airports and casinos.

The airport location will be owned and operated by Morpho Travel Experience, a specialty retailer with eight food and beverage concepts and stores in four international airports.

“This partnership with California Pizza Kitchen provides us the opportunity to continue our growth in the food and beverage division in a very promising airport,” Morpho Chief Executive Adriana Echandi said in a statement.

Over the past two years, CPK has lost 30% of its restaurants due to mall closures. The franchise currently counts almost 200 restaurants across eight countries and has announced expansion plans to Costa Rica for late 2022.

The company reported $490 million in systemwide sales for 2021.
