The Irvine Ranch retained its position as the best-selling master-planned community in Orange County last year, while three other communities in Orange County also ranked among the top 20 in the nation for sales in 2017, according to a new report.

New homes sales on Irvine Co.-controlled land totaled 1,814 in 2017, according to a report from John Burns Real Estate Consulting, which is based in Irvine.

That was a 9% decline from 2016 levels. John Burns initially indicated those figures were still strong enough to rank the Irvine Ranch as No. 1. among all master-planned communities in the U.S., but later revised their figures, dropping it to the No. 2 spot.

Florida’s Villages sold the most new homes last year, with 2,231 sales, according to the revised report.

The Irvine Ranch “continues to appeal to buyers with a wide range of product and price points, access to employment, retail, and the beach, top-notch schools, and thousands of acres of preserved open spaces and parks,” the John Burns report said.

Another Irvine development, Great Park Neighborhoods, was No. 9 on the list with 830 home sales in 2017, a 55% year-over-year increase.

Rancho Mission Viejo was No. 12 on the list with 601 sales, up 31% from 2016 levels.

Baker Ranch in Lake Forest was No. 18 with 479 new home sales, a 7% jump from 2016 levels, according to the report.
