Orange County’s unemployment rate fell to 3.5% in December from a revised 3.7% in November despite a net loss of jobs month-over-month.
Orange County added 12,800 jobs in February to maintain a 4% unemployment rate, even with the recently revised rate for the month prior.
The jobless rate in Orange County fell to 5% last month, when employers here added 3,900 jobs.

Orange County employment grew by about 2.4% last year, boosted by December gains that helped push the unemployment rate down to 5.2% from 5.7% in November and 6.8% a year earlier.
Orange County added 8,700 jobs in November, buoyed in large part by seasonal hiring in retail.
Local businesses cut 10,200 jobs in July, pushing up Orange County’s unemployment rate to 6.5% from 6.1% in June.
