Orange County-based auto brands met or exceeded national new vehicles sales figures in August.
U.S. sales rose 5.5% last month compared with a year earlier, to about 1.59 million. They are on pace to reach 17.5 million for the year, the highest level since 2006, according to Autodata Corp., a New Jersey-based market researcher.
Hyundai Motor America in Cypress sold 70,003 vehicles, a 5.9% increase from the same period last year.
Kia Motors America Inc. in Irvine had a 5.1 % year-over-year increase with 54,667 vehicles sold.
Mazda Motor of America Inc. in Irvine posted an 11.4% year-over-year increase with 31,305 vehicles sold.
Cypress-based Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. posted a 28.5% increase, to 6,786 vehicles sold.
