Epson America Sees OC Move Completed by Early ‘21

Epson America Inc., best known for its printers, scanners and projectors, is looking forward to completing the final stages of its regional headquarters move to Orange County from Long Beach by the first part of 2021, after COVID-19 forced the company to revise the original plans.

Epson is moving into more than 150,000 square feet of space at 3131 Katella Ave. in Los Alamitos in a two-building campus redeveloped by Lincoln Property Co. The move had been scheduled for this past summer, but then the coronavirus came along, upending timetables and keeping people away from offices.

“We are nearing the final stages of the build-out and plan on completing the remaining elements by the first part of next year,” said Dan Murphy, director of Epson America’s marketing communications. “We are working on return-to-work plans over the next several months following all CDC and local health official guidelines.

He told the Business Journal on Oct. 29 that “moving is underway in stages” while a majority of the team has been working remotely.

“As a result of the pandemic, Epson pivoted plans and segmented timing for the move in later phases to ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees. The new office is nearing completion and we’ve officially changed our address,” he said.

Epson is one of many companies across Orange County with employees and colleagues working remotely due to the coronavirus. Software maker Mavenlink in Irvine for example, said last month virtually everyone was working remotely, while next-gen chip company Syntiant said that “generally” its employees in Irvine were working from home.

Heightened Level

Murphy said there was a “need to implement a new, significantly heightened level of health safety that was not a part of the original pre-COVID plan.”

Epson said that 600 employees are slated for the new facilities in Los Alamitos, with room for growth to 700 workers, ranking Epson among the top employers in Los Alamitos. The new site is about four miles from the former location in Long Beach, and all employees have been moved out of the old facility.

In addition to open and collaborative office, conference and technology lab facilities, the new Los Alamitos campus houses a new Epson Experience Center, providing opportunities for Epson customers and partners to work with its technologies and business solutions.

Japan-based Seiko Epson Corp., which owns the company, also produces industrial robots and 3LCD projectors, in addition to printers and scanners. Epson America, Inc. is the regional headquarters for the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.

Home Streaming

Epson has introduced products catering to at-home streaming and viewing that have become even more important during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, the company announced additions to its Epson EpiqVision projector lineup, including options with built-in Android TV and custom sound by Yamaha, combined with Epson’s laser-array projection technology. They are designed to provide big-screen viewing anywhere in the home or outside, including gaming and streaming channels such as Hulu, HBO, Prime Video, and YouTube.

The projectors will be available as of this month through select retailers, the Epson online store as well as Magnolia and CEDIA dealers.
