California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday the state is ready to begin a slow reopening of businesses in phase two of a plan lifting orders that shuttered non-essential businesses more than a month ago.

This starts Friday with the reopening of workplaces considered low-risk for transmission of COVID-19.

Manufacturers and logistics companies will be part of this initial wave. Retailers, including apparel and bookstores, can also reopen, with curbside service.

Malls, restaurants’ dining rooms and offices where workers can work from home are not part of this lifting of restrictions.
