Indexes rose on anticipation that the Federal Reserve, which is meeting today, will continue supporting the economy amidst the coronavirus.
The S&P 500 was up 1% to 3,249.58 in midday trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.4% to 26,493.44 while the Nasdaq jumped 1.1% to 10,517.98.
Crude oil increased 0.4% to $41.22 while gold also climbed 0.4% to $1,953 an ounce.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 1% to 0.59%.
Irvine Western-inspired retailer Boot Barn Holdings Inc. (NYSE: BOOT) jumped 12% to $20.52 and a $592 million market cap. Volume was about half of daily average of 1.1 million. Shares of the company, which reports first quarter results on Aug. 4, have doubled since their 52-week low in mid-March.
Alteryx Inc. (NYSE: AYX) was up 5% to $173.33 and a $11.4 billion market cap. Shares of the Irvine-based provider of data analytic software, which is scheduled to report second quarter results on Aug. 6, have more than doubled since early April.
