Crude oil declined 0.4% to $46.58.
Gold rose 0.5% to $1,846.10.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury fell 3.3% to 0.89%.
The S&P 600 Restaurants Index declined by 3.3% to 1,668.45
The slump among local restaurants was led by a 6.8% decline for Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. (Nasdaq: BJRI) to $33.13 for a market cap of $746 million.
El Pollo Loco Holdings (Nasdaq: LOCO) of Costa Mesa fell 2.3% to $17.74 for a market cap of $649 million. Lake Forest-based Del Taco Restaurants Inc. (Nasdaq: TACO) was down 1.1% to $9 for a market cap of $337 million. Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG) was down 1% to $1,306 for a market cap of $37 billion.
San Juan Capistrano-based nursing home and rehab care facility operator The Ensign Group (Nasdaq: ENSG) declined 5% to $72.10 for a market cap of $3.9 billion. The company, which was trading on volume lower than its daily average, is up about 58% since the start of the year.
