John Wayne Airport passenger traffic rose 3.4% in February to 790,000 compared with the same month last year. There were about 21,000 flights to and the OC airport in February, a 9% dip from February 2018.
Year-to-date traffic is up nearly 2% while flights are down 9%.
Commercial flights in February rose 2.1% to about 6,700. Commuter flights, or scheduled flights on planes with fewer than 70 seats, skyrocketed 1,287% to 416 flights in February when compared to the year prior, largely due to JetSuiteX, a semi-charter service that began in the summer.
General aviation, which accounted for about 66% of total aircraft operations in February, dropped 15% to 14,000.
International passengers totaled 13,000 on 140 flights for the month, down about 3% each.
The three busiest airlines in February by passenger count were Southwest Airlines at 280,000; American Airlines at 128,000; and United Airlines with about 119,000 passengers.
