Indices rose in midday trading on easing tensions about a potential trade war between China and the U.S.
The S&P 500 rose 1.8% to 2,650.91. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.7% to 24,337.10. The Nasdaq jumped 2.2% to 7,068.30.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond increased 0.8% to 2.80%.
The price of gold rose 0.2% to $1,339.
Costa Mesa’s Veritone Inc. (Nasdaq: VERI) climbed 3.6% to $16.35 and a $265 million market cap. Shares of the company, which has an online ad-placement business and is trying to expand into artificial intelligence, have climbed 23% since April 5 when it said it will update its AI operating system this month.
Iteris Inc. (Nasdaq: ITI) declined 6.2% to $4.22 and a $140 million market cap. Shares of the Santa Ana-based company, which makes systems that collect data on transportation and agriculture, have fallen 45% since Jan. 9.
