VCs Put $140M in OC High Tech in Q4

High-tech companies in Orange County scored more than $140 million in venture capital funding in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to numbers released Thursday by the Irvine office of real estate brokerage Jones Lang LaSalle.

The total was a 39% increase from the same period in 2014 and brought the total for all of 2015 to $609 million, a year-over-year gain of 94%.

Much of the funding was concentrated in the John Wayne Airport area and south Orange County, the research shows.

High-tech companies in Irvine were the biggest recipient, netting about $384 million. Orange had the lowest total with $326,000.

The top-funded companies in Q4 were Irvine-based Alteryx at close to $85 million, Laguna Beach-based NextVR at nearly $31 million, Irvine-based Numecent at about $16 million, and Irvine-based POPin, at about $6 million.

High-tech investment volume remains strong, recording more than $100 million in five consecutive quarters, with the software industry attracting the highest amount of VC funding, according to Jones Lang LaSalle’s research.
