Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A said it will move its North American headquarters from Irvine to Foothill Ranch.
The distributor of ATVs, motorcycles and personal watercraft signed a 15-year lease on a 200,000-square-foot space at 26972 Burbank and plans to move there next summer.
“[W]ith more than 300 of our staff being based in or around Orange County it is critical that our new location remain central to the community,” President and Chief Executive Masa Nakagawa said in a statement, and “As Kawasaki celebrates its 50th anniversary in the U.S. in 2016, we wanted to cultivate a new environment that creates and exemplifies the Kawasaki brand and products, and we believe this new space will do just that.”
The new headquarters is next to Foothill Ranch Towne Centre in Lake Forest, four miles from Kawasaki’s old building in Irvine. H. Hendy Architects in Newport Beach will handle the redesign of the building’s interior, including modifications to allow more natural light, second floor offices and an expansive ground floor. The space will house corporate offices, research and development facilities, racing and technical workshops and a warehouse.
It’s also the current home of fast-fashion retailer Wet Seal LLC.
Kawasaki, whose annual revenue is more than $1.6 billion, sold its old Spectrum-area building to Bixby Land Co. in Irvine for just under $44.3 million, or roughly $168 per square foot.
