K-Swiss Buys FV-Based Brands

Fountain Valley-based skate apparel and footwear maker One Distribution has been acquired by K-Swiss Global Brands on undisclosed terms.

Angel Cabada, Scott Bailey and Scott VanDerripe founded One Distribution in 2002. It’s the parent of KR3W Denim Co., which started in 2003 and dubs itself the originator of the skinny jean style. The partners launched Supra Footwear under the One Distribution umbrella in 2006. The company operates stores in Santa Monica, New York City, Mexico City, Paris and Tokyo, and distributes to more than 60 countries through a network of skate shops and high-end boutiques.

Bertram Capital, a San Mateo-based private equity firm, acquired a stake in the company in August 2010, while Cabada, Bailey and VanDerripe retained a share of ownership. One Distribution has offices in Barcelona, Sydney and Dongguan, China.

“Supra and KR3W are brands that meet the distinctions we are looking for in our portfolio: authenticity, strong brand awareness, a track record of product innovation and opportunities for long-term, global growth,” K-Swiss Global Brands’ President and Chief Executive Larry Remington said in a statement.

The group also owns K-Swiss, Palladium, PLDM and OTZ. It’s a division of South Korea-based E.Land Co., Ltd., which has more than 200 brands in its portfolio, including Ellesse and New Balance.

K-Swiss Global Brands appointed Robert Capener as the brand president of both Supra and KR3W. Capener founded the Above the Rim and Heaton brands, and has held senior positions at Adidas, Reebok and No Fear.
