Auction.com Seeks Chinese Buyers, Sellers With Deal

Auction.com LLC in Irvine, an online real estate marketplace that matches buyers and sellers of commercial and residential properties, signed a co-marketing deal with AREAA Global “to expand real estate ownership opportunities for Chinese investors.”

AREAA Global, a 14,000-member subsidiary of the Asian Real Estate Association of America, will help connect potential buyers with Chinese-speaking brokers and agents who are familiar with the Auction.com platform.

“As the only business trade organization focused extensively on facilitating international partnerships between real estate professionals in the US and Asian investors overseas, AREAA Global is the ideal partner for us in this endeavor,” Auction.com Chief Executive Tim Morse said in a news release. “Providing local market, Chinese-speaking real estate experts will help Chinese investors make informed buying decisions and gain a better understanding of Auction.com’s transaction processes.”

Buyers pay 1% to 5% of the sale price to Auction.com when a sale transaction closes. About 800 transactions worth $2.8 billion occurred through the site last year, the company said.

It’s also working with Juwai.com, a Chinese international property listing website that advertises Auction.com’s U.S.-based offerings in Chinese.

Mike Besack, meanwhile, left his position as senior account executive at ad shop Amusement Park in Santa Ana to join Auction.com’s public relations team as a PR manager.

Image Update

Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. is getting “a little somethin’ somethin’ ” done as it gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

The Irvine-based distributor of ATVs, motorcycles and personal watercraft has come up with a new visual identity for its brand that will be featured at 1,500 dealerships nationwide this fall. It will use white lettering on a black background with the “distinctive Kawasaki Lime Green stripes” on its signage, a direction that came from its parent company, Japan-based Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.

“Kawasaki’s rich heritage … in the U.S. powersports industry has been highlighted by motorcycles such as the original Z1 and Ninja 900,” said Bill Jenkins, senior vice president of sales operations. “We also developed the market for the first stand-up personal watercraft with the Jet Ski brand, and developed the first utility four-wheeled vehicles with the MULE side x sides. Now, our visual identity will reflect this heritage and align our U.S. brand image with Kawasaki’s global presence.”

The company’s annual revenue is more than $1.6 billion. It has about 480 employees.

UCI Strain

The University of California-Irvine, in collaboration with the creators of “The Strain” on FX, is offering a free, four-week online course that explores the science behind the “virus and parasite biology, cyber security and epidemiological modeling” depicted on the TV show.

The vampire thriller centers on New York City as it copes with a rapidly spreading “evil” epidemic and a cyber-virus attack to boot. UC Irvine professors Pavan Kadandale, Sarah Eichhorn and Hadar Ziv are using clips from the episodes to lead discussion about “real-world examples of parasites changing host behavior, hackers taking down communication networks, and diseases rampaging through populations,” according to the Canvas Network, the platform that’s hosting the course through Oct. 1.

The effort is part of FX’ marketing campaign for the second season of the show, which also includes social media promotions, billboard ads, and a “Strigoi Whisper,” an online feature that lets fans record voice messages, then transforms them to sound like the vampires on the show.
