Irvine-based Lantronix Inc. named Jeffrey Benck president and chief executive.

Benck was president and chief executive of Costa Mesa-based Emulex Corp. from July 2013 until it was bought by Avago Technologies Ltd. in May. He had been an Emulex senior executive since 2008, and before that was president and chief operating officer of Aliso Viejo-based QLogic Corp.

Each of the three Orange County companies are networking products makers.

Avago, which is based in Singapore and has its U.S. headquarters in San Jose, expects to close its $37 billion buy of Irvine-based Broadcom Corp. in early 2016.

“We are pleased to have a proven successful leader of Jeff’s caliber,” said Bernhard Bruscha, chairman of Lantronix’s board, citing Benck’s “deep operational skills and extensive technology industry experience.”

Benck will receive a base salary of $400,000 and 450,000 restricted shares that vest over the next three years.

He replaces Kurt Busch, who resigned as chief executive in November after four years in that role “to pursue other opportunities.”

Interim Chief Executive Jeremy Whitaker remains in his previous position as chief financial officer.

Lantronix shares were up 3.6% Monday to $1.16 and a $17.5 million market cap.
