The S&P 500 was down 0.3% to 2,054.48 in midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.5% to 17,771.04 while the Nasdaq rose 0.3% to 4,755.16.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond declined 1.2% to 2.23%.

The price of gold jumped 3.1% to $1,232.


Irvine-based Western Digital Corp. was up 3.4% to $108.63 and a market cap of $25.2 billion. The storage products maker said it had resolved two non-compliance matters with China’s Ministry of Commerce.


Tustin-based drug developer Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up 7.4% to $1.45 and a market cap of $260.3 million as traders bid up the stock prior to its quarterly report, expected after markets close tomorrow.
