The Automobile Club of Southern California Insurance Group ranked No.1 in the latest auto-claims satisfaction study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates, a global marketing information services firm.

The Auto Club has its core operations in Costa Mesa, including its insurance unit and other administrative offices, while its on-the-books headquarters is in Los Angeles.

Westlake Village-based J.D. Power surveyed about 11,500 auto insurance customers who settled claims in the past six months. The online study asked them to rate their insurance companies across various factors. Categories included service interaction, repair process and claims settlement.

The Auto Club Insurance Group ranked highest in all six categories, earning 889 points out of 1,000. The industry average was 855.

“We’ve been working hard toward this goal,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “The J.D. Power survey is a respected, meaningful benchmark. A number of insurers, including us, are focused on it.”

J.D. Power started the annual survey in 2007. The Auto Club Insurance Group consistently has made the list, including landing at No. 4 last year with a score of 874.

“We’ve ranked well, but never the highest,” Spring said. “We’ve put in concerted efforts to put in practices and systems to really respond quickly to our customers. We’re honored.”

The Auto Club is the largest member of the American Automobile Association federation of motor clubs. It has about 6 million members in Southern California and provides a range of services, including auto and homeowners insurance, roadside assistance and travel services, among others.
