The S&P 500 slipped 0.09% to 1,839.73 in afternoon trading Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.04% to 16,484.33, while the Nasdaq was down 0.09% to 4,152.83.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 1.20% to 2.97%.

The price of gold fell 0.74% to $1,205.70 per ounce.

Irvine-based laser device maker Biolase Inc. surged about 17% to $3.05 on news that it received a license to sell its Epic 10 laser, which is used in soft tissue dental surgery and other procedures, in Canada. Biolase had a recent market value of $106.30 million.

Irvine-based patient monitor maker Masimo Corp. was up about 2% to $29.57 for a market value of $1.67 billion. Masimo is up about 35% since the start of the year.
