Irvine-based Yogurtland Franchising Inc. is planning a big push into the Houston area.

The frozen-yogurt chain said it plans to open 12 to 15 locations in the Houston area, where it already has three franchised locations.

The new locations also will be franchised, and are expected to be opened over the next several years.

Yogurtland has nearly 200 locations in the U.S., Mexico and Guam.

The plan for the Houston market comes amid a larger push for the company to grow to 1,000 stores by 2017.

Yogurtland moved its headquarters from Anaheim to larger space in Irvine in June.
