The S&P 500 fell 0.01% to 1,387 in midday trading Tuesday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 0.08% to 12,786.

The Nasdaq was down 0.15% to 2,912 .

The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was up 2.48% to 1.65%.

The price of gold was off 0.55% to $1,725 per ounce.

Shares of Irvine-based Western Digital Corp. were off about 2% to $34 for a market value of $8.3 billion. Computer hardware makers were trading generally down on Tuesday.

Irvine-based Standard Pacific Corp. rose about 5% to $7 for a market value of $2.3 billion. Homebuilders were trading up Tuesday on strong growth of residential construction starts in October.

Shares of Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi Corp. was up about 3% to $19 for a market value of $1.6 billion. The chipmaker said that Irvine-based Vizio Inc. is using one of Microsemi’s backlighting products for two of its TVs.
