The Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau named an industry veteran from Texas to its top post.
The appointment of Jay Burress, who will start on Feb. 11, ended a nationwide search for the position that began when Charles Ahlers announced plans to retire in February.
Ahlers, who has served as president since 1992, is expected to stay on as an executive at the bureau to assist with the transition until June.
Burress has been president and chief executive of the convention and visitor bureau in Arlington, Texas, called Experience Arlington. He also served in various executive positions at the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau for 20 years, handling convention and tourism sales.
Burress joins the local visitor bureau as the Anaheim Convention Center readies its new 100,000-square-foot outdoor meeting space area, Grand Plaza, which will become available in January.
